Postgraduate Qualification:
MD in Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) or MD in Transfusion Medicine
DNB (Diplomate of National Board) in Transfusion Medicine
Some specialists also pursue an MD in Pathology and later specialize in transfusion services.
Additional Fellowships & Advanced Training train for specific skills (optional):
Fellowships in Apheresis, Cellular Therapy, Coagulation, Molecular and HLA, Patient Blood Management further enhance expertise.

Screened for infections (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, Malaria, Syphilis, etc.).

They oversee Quality Management Systems (QMS) in blood centers (earlier blood banks) to comply with national and international standards.
